Google Enhances Its SGE AI-Powered Answers

Google has announced an enhancement to its Search Generative Experience’s AI-generated responses. The upgrade now incorporates descriptions of various sources. This is backed by details from high-quality sites that offer information about the referenced website. New links to these sites have been added within the AI-generated description.

These AI-based descriptions similar to previous links, are unique. They are displayed in the “more about this page” area of the ‘About this result’ section. This occurs for some sources where a pre-existing overview from either Wikipedia or Google Knowledge Graph is absent.

According to Google, “At this stage, we’re starting small in exploring how this technology can be useful to support and supplement our existing information literacy efforts.”

‘About This Image’ Feature Rolled Out in Google Search

Google has started rolling out the “About this image” feature in Google Search globally to English language users. The feature provides more details about image search results. Here are three key elements of what you can expect from it:

Image History

This feature shows the earliest appearance of an image or similar ones in Google Search. It also tracks whether the image was published much earlier on other web pages. This is valuable in ascertaining if an image is being shared out of context in relation to a current event.

Usage and Description of Your Image on Other Sites

It enables users to see how an image is utilized on other pages and what other sources like news and fact-checking sites have to say about it. This helps to assess the claims being made about an image, and to view evidence and perspectives from various sources.

Inclusion of Image Metadata and AI

The feature also displays available metadata that image creators and publishers have added to an image. This includes fields that may indicate that the image has been generated or improved by AI. As per Google statement, “All AI-generated images from Google will have this markup in the original file”.
